Research Support

Research support team oversees the cyberinfrastructure (CI) coordinated between Libraries and IT Services and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies to enhance research and scholarship. The National Science Foundation defines CI as a collection of advanced technologies and services to support scientific inquiry. This includes:

  • Computing clusters and high performance computing systems;
  • Data management, data integration, and data storage systems;
  • High speed networks;
  • Data mining and data visualization;
  • Collaboration and security tools; and
  • The people who design, build, and run these systems.

Estelle McGroarty, Director, leads the Research Support team. Since 2007, Estelle served as associate vice provost and associate vice president for research support, appointed jointly in the offices of the Vice Provost for Libraries and IT Services (formerly Libraries, Computing and Technology) and Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, and helping to set shared vision and coordinate efforts across both of those domains. Estelle is a professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and has served as senior associate dean and acting dean of the College of Natural Science.
